Public trust. Is it engendered or eroded when elites, experts, and egos generate and double down on “dead right” narratives that distort and even deny reality leading to deception, disorder, dysfunction, and even destruction of life and do so for dubious and decidedly power-hungry and vainglorious ends?
When we hear someone say crazy things, we might say “Yeah, right” and shrug it off. But when a group of people say crazy things in concert and people agree with said crazy things, we wonder “What in the world is going on?”
This our reality: the Machine and the Mechanical Hound.
“American thought is dominated by a “prevailing vision” which seals itself off from any empirical evidence that is inconsistent with that vision.”
“Whip the groaning masses towards . . . a theoretical future happiness, which only we[f] can see”?
“I am right and you are wrong.” How does that work out in marriage? With our neighbors?
A totally controlled society will arrive in the next few minutes.
You walk into this room at your own risk, because it leads to the future, not a future that will be but one that might be. This is not a new world; it is simply an extension of what began in the old one.
